The Copper Stone

The year is 1906, and twelve-year-old Violet Blake finds an unusual stone by the stream where her mother used to harvest medicine. Violet is certain that the Stone is magic-and if anyone's in need of its powers, it's Violet. Her mother and adored little brother are gone, perhaps never to return, and her heartbroken father can't seem to sustain the family's failing farm near the shores of Lake Michigan and the mysteriously clear Blue Lake.

The Copper Stone: A Glimpse of Blood Memory is an amended edition of Julia Mary Gibson's novel Copper Magic, which contained misinformation and inaccuracies about Indigenous people. This new edition was written with guidance from noted Anishinaabe knowledge keeper and author Sandi Boucher in order to reflect a deeper understanding and authenticity of Indigenous practices and worldviews.
