A New Chapter for Big Red Books

Big Red Books quickly became a beloved part of downtown Nyack,  thanks to founder, Richie Fulco. When our family had the opportunity to become its next owners, we knew we wanted to be part of its story.

Led by three sisters who call the Nyack community home, with plenty of help from our parents, partners, and kids, Big Red Books is now a truly multi-generational family business. We’re readers, parents, marketers, merchandisers, builders, and event planners — but mostly, we’re a family that really loves this town and believes in the importance of having an independent bookstore at its heart.

Our Mission

Big Red Books was founded in 2023 with a simple idea: to create a neighborhood bookstore that fosters creativity, community, and a love for reading. As Big Red enters its next chapter as a family-owned business, that mission remains at the heart of everything we do.

We believe an independent bookstore should be a place to discover something new, find an old favorite, and feel connected to the community around you. Our shelves bring together thoughtfully curated fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children’s and young adult books, cookbooks, local authors, and plenty of unexpected finds.

Beyond the books, we want Big Red to continue as a space for people to connect. From author readings and book clubs to story times, workshops, live music, and community events, our goal is to bring people together and support the writers, artists, families, schools, and organizations that make Nyack special.

Above all, we want Big Red Books to feel like your neighborhood bookstore — welcoming, curious, independent, and distinctly Nyack.

Meet

The

Sisters

Nicole is the planner of the family, helping bring Big Red to life beyond the shelves through author events, book clubs, workshops, kids’ activities, and community partnerships. A local mom herself, she’s especially excited about creating programming that gives families more reasons to make Big Red Books part of their routine.

Nicole (The Oldest)

An avid reader and the person most likely to have a recommendation ready, Kara helps curate Big Red’s shelves and discover what we should be reading next. As a local mom, she’s also passionate about making the store welcoming and inclusive for kids and families of all kinds.

Kara (The Middle)

Emma leads marketing for Big Red Books, from social and events to partnerships and getting the word out about what’s happening at the store. A Nyack local and mom, she’s especially excited about helping Big Red Books grow while keeping everything that makes a neighborhood bookstore special.
