Snug Harbor, Gleason Shore, and Area Camp Histories

This book brings together the stories of the Snug Harbor and Gleason Shore families, written by current owners, who have made Great Pond in the Belgrade Lakes area of Maine their summer haven for generations. Season after season memories have been created, shared, and passed down, woven into the rhythm of what we call "camp life." Many camps (that's what we call lakeside cottages up here) have stayed in the same families for decades, while others have welcomed new owners who are now building traditions of their own.

To get a clearer picture of how this special place first came to be and how it continues to evolve, the residents of these two adjacent lakefront neighborhoods on Great Pond, have contributed their personal histories, recalling to their best knowledge and memory, just why this special summer community has earned a spot in their hearts and minds.

Through it all, Snug Harbor and Gleason Shore have remained a gathering place for summer pilgrims, those who return each year with growing families, eager anticipation, and the inevitable list of new summer projects. And when the season draws to a close, we shutter up the camps, say goodby to our neighbors and loons, and drive away already counting the days until the next summer returns.
