A photo-text journey through the life of a vibrant Boston neighborhood during the last decade of the 20^th century. The documentary brings to life the interior world of a long-established American Chinatown and includes the life stories of residents and workers, business owners and educators, political activists and migrants, artists and healers, among others. The narrative records the political and cultural life of a neighborhood that has long served as the cultural center and home for Chinese and other Asian immigrants transitioning to American life. Chinatown's vibrant restaurant industry has long provided stable job opportunities and cultural support for immigrants who arrive in America with limited knowledge of English and the American way of life. The Chinatown community also provides a launching ground for Chinese immigrants who set out to build new lives as entrepreneurs by creating restaurants and other businesses to serve the region's growing Asian community.
